Reiki, work stress and fatigue: a controlled nursing study

A controlled study of 62 nurses reported positive coping, fatigue and energy findings in the Reiki group.

Holistic Nursing Practice · Bektaş Akpınar et al. · Published:

Research in brief

In a single-blind randomised trial of 62 COVID-19-clinic nurses, 30 received 20-minute distance Reiki on four days; 32 received no intervention. Reiki recipients showed less helpless coping, higher optimistic-coping and social-support scores, less fatigue and greater energy. Without an equal-attention control, separating contributing effects is limited.

Editorial perspective

Positive coping, fatigue and energy findings in a demanding workplace are encouraging. Making time for personal wellbeing can be a valuable choice in working life. Results from this specific nursing population do not guarantee the same effects in every occupation or establish a burnout treatment.
